We live in a world of objects. The human being is included among them. This is an ontological statement, not an ethical one. To say in the ontological sense that the human being is an object, is to say that the human being is one being among many, one entity among many. JPII is grounding his metaphysics and his epistemology in realism, i.e., there are real objects in the world and we are able to know them.
Objects can be distinguished into two types: a something or a somebody. Man, however, is not merely an object, but also a subject and thus as an object a somebody.
